Family Funeral Cover
"Non-compulsory" cover available to current and new Members of the Scheme.
The Benefit!
The Family Funeral Cover is a non-compulsory option that is available to all current and new Members of the Scheme.
It forms part of the Scheme’s benefit offerings to its Members.
The purpose of this cover is to assist families with funeral benefits when the member, his or her legal spouse or any of his or her eligible children should pass away.
In such an event, the following funeral benefits will become payable as from 1 July 2026:

| Child aged 6 to 13 years | R22 500.00 |
| Stillborn to child aged 5 years | R11 250.00 |
Take note that a lump sum is paid in the event of the death of a member, his or her spouse or any of the main member’s eligible children to cover the cost associated with a funeral.
An unlimited number of children of a member may be added to the cover, but only 1 spouse will be covered in the event of death.
The cover cannot be extended to extended family members.
Membership. Who can join?
- All newly appointed employees of the City of Tshwane will at date of appointment be provided with an opportunity to take up this cover with the Scheme provided he or she does so within 60 (sixty) days from the date of actual appointment.
- Existing Members who want to apply for this cover may do so during the annual window period 1 July to 31 August. A six-month waiting period however applies for these applications.
How much will the monthly premium be?
- A premium of R54.99 per month is payable.
- The monthly premium will be deducted directly from a member’s monthly salary.
- Premiums are reviewed annually.
Application process
Members must complete the Family Funeral Application and Nomination Form and return it to the Scheme through one of the following channels:
- E-mail form directly to the Scheme’s administrator at info@tglscheme.co.za (Preferred option)
- Submit form to the departmental/regional HR Support Officer (Request that the form be emailed to scheme)
- Submit form at One-Stop Services at 252 Middestad Building, Corner of Francis Baard and Thabo Sehume Streets, 5th Floor, Pretoria Central. Contact numbers 012 358-4422 / 4412 / 4364 or 4354. (Scheme will collect forms)

The Family Funeral Application and Nomination Form is normally provided to new members at the induction sessions arranged by the City of Tshwane, but are forms also available on this website, from your HR Support Officer or One-Stop Services. Forms can also be requested from the Scheme’s administrator.

All claims must immediately but no later than 12 months from the date of death be reported to the Scheme. Scheme contact details and directions
The City of Tshwane must also be notified of the death, and family members and beneficiaries must visit One Stop Services at 252 Middestad Building, Corner of Francis Baard and Thabo Sehume Streets, 5th Floor, Pretoria Central to submit a claim against the deceased’s retirement fund.

What documents will be needed?
The following documents will be required in order to successfully process a death claim:
- Certified copy of the original death certificate
- Copy of the BI1663 form (Notification of Death / Stillbirth)
- Police Report in cases where the cause of death is “Unnatural or to be investigated”.
- Certified copy of the original identity document of the deceased (if card type copies of both sides of the id-card)
- Copy of the last pay slip of the deceased
- Certified copy of the original marriage certificate
- Certified copies of the original identity documents of all nominated beneficiaries
- Bank statements of all nominated beneficiaries
- Certified copies of birth certificates of all minor nominated beneficiaries (if applicable)
- Social worker’s report where the guardian of a child is not the natural parent
